You will find a wonderful range of good old-fashioned bread at
The Old Farmhouse Bakery. Everything is hand-made from scratch in small batches
on the premises to traditional recipes with no added chemicals, preservatives or additives. Where possible we source our ingredients locally.
White crusty Cottage Loaves for your ploughmans and large white Farmhouse and Bloomers that make delicious toast and sandwiches.
Our tasty Wholemeal is made with stoneground organic flour from local millers Doves Farm and makes wonderful robust sandwiches.
Our Malted with Added Linseed uses flour that has been milled especially for us by Wessex Mill, one of the smallest family run flour mills in the country. Four generations have been milling in Wantage. The mill has a history going back to the Doomsday Book! They buy high quality wheat from inspected farms in Oxfordshire and mill it to suit our bakery.
You will find a superb range of "specials" such as Fresh Onion
& Cheddar Cheese plaits - Black Olive, Pecan & Bay plaits - the
colourful Sundried Tomato & Basil intertwined with Spinach and
Sesame…………..........and much more!
We make a superb 100% Rye Sour Dough (so no yeast) packed full
of sunflower seeds and a scrummy Wheat Leaven loaf (again no yeast) both with
good keeping quality….if you don't eat them too quickly!! We also make a
wonderful Spelt loaf using stoneground organic flour. The cheese used in our baking is a strong organic Cheddar from
Herefordshire delivered weekly direct from the farm. Our sausagemeat comes from the highly regarded Dews Meadow Farm
in Hanney. Our free range eggs are delivered directly from Beechwood Farm near Newbury.
You will find a mouth-watering range of cakes and pastries,
sweet and savoury at the bakery. Our lardy cakes are like no other and because
they are so deliciously addictive it's surprising they don't come with a
government health warning!! Indulge yourself with a Double Chocolate Brownie.....or two. Gooey and decadent, they're studded with chunks of White Valrhona Chocolate, Dark Valrhona Chocolate and Pecans. Irresistibly rich and moreish, eat them as they are or warm them up and serve with a dollop of vanilla ice-cream or thick double cream. Simple, yet truly delicious. Ummmmm.
We look forward to you visiting us!
