British Farmhouse Cheese
As ex-dairy farmers we have only ever stocked British Farmhouse Cheese in The Bakery and have done so for more than twenty years. On of our most popular cheeses is Lincolnshire Poacher which won one of the 18 major awards (amongst 884 entries!) at the 2009 British Cheese Awards. It is produced by brothers Simon and Tim Jones on their dairy farm using fresh unpasteurised milk from their own herd. The fertile chalk fields, which have been farmed for thousands of years, help give the cheese its distinctive and complex flavours. A hand-made cheese, it combines characteristics of a traditional Cheddar and a Swiss mountain cheese. Matured for 14-24 months it has a unique flavour and texture and, although the taste varies with the seasons, it usually has a distinctive fruity, nutty taste with a clean sweet finish.
Jars & Bottles We also have Gilly's range of dressings from Faringdon, Wendy Brandon's fantastic range of jams and chutneys straight from her farm in Pembrokeshire and Mellow Yellow rapeseed oil from Farringtons in Northamptonshire.
Basketware We keep a good variety of basketware in, especially shopping baskets, but if you're after something in particular that we don't have do let us know and we'll do our best to get it in for you. We have lots of baskets in stock so why not make a present of one filled with some of our bread and cakes and the goodies above.
